Blood Flow Measurement

The flow of blood cannot be made visible with the help of X-rays due to their same density as the surroundings tissues. Hence to make the blood flow visible a contrast medium like iodated organic compound is injected into the blood vessel so that the circulation pattern can be made to be visible. Now with the help of X-rays, the progress of the contrast medium, the obstructions and the blood flow in the vessels can be estimated. Sometimes radio isotopes are injected into the blood circulation which helps in detection of vascular obstruction. The nuclear radiation can be analyzed with the help of imaging device like scanner or cameras. The vascular obstructions can be detected by measuring the difference in the skin temperature due to improper and reduced circulation of blood.
