At the time of open heart surgery, it is necessary to use the artificial heart lung machine, because, the doctor has to do the surgery in the heart. Hence, the heart cannot maintain circulation. It is necessary to provide extra corporeal circulation with a special machine called hear lung machine. This machine can do all the operation similar to heart which does the pumping operation and the lung that does the oxygenation operation. The machine is used to maintain the blood circulation throughout the body at the time of surgery. The circulatory path for blood flow through the lungs is known as pulmonary circulation. The circulatory path which supplies oxygen to the cell of the body is known as systemic circulation.
