Animal food has little or no indigestible matter with the result that almost all of it is absorbed from the intestines into the blood. Consequently, carnivorous animals, such as cat and tiger have short intestines. On the other hand, plant based food contains much indigestible matter in the form of fiber and to accommodate and deal with the latter, a greater length of intestine is necessary. The commonest cause of liver damage, cirrhosis and liver failure is chronic heavy consumption of alcohol. Some cases are due to viral hepatitis almost 10 per cent cases of Hepatitis B infection which is contracted by sexual intercourse or infected by blood transfusion, proceed to cirrhosis of liver.
