How many times have you drunk milk? Umpteen number of times? Well, how many numbers of times have you choked upon raw milk? Am sure not even once. You got to thank the legendary scientist and microbiologist Louis Pasteur for having made you prevent choking from drinking raw milk! It was this French personality who made the path breaking discovery that milk and other animal products or for that matter any eatable can be disinfected and pasteurized by a special yet simple technique. This method of pasteurization (named after this personality) is followed even today in literally all the places of the world to sterilize milk and other dairy products. He is also credited with making sterilization an essential commodity in surgical equipments and instruments used in surgery. He was ridiculed by almost all the surgeons of his time for having made public the fact that infections spread by means of dirty hands used in surgeries. These revelations even lead to an altercation between Pasteur and a veteran 80 year old surgeon! Nevertheless, Pasteur is still remembered as one of the most respected and note worthy personalities of his era and can even be named as the personality of the century!
